Home Cinema Setup Success Stories from Birmingham and the West Midlands

Home cinema setup in Barnt Green, Birmingham
We designed and installed a dedicated cinema room for a new build home in Barnt Green, West Midlands. Having implemented a Control4 home automation system for the property, this allowed for seamless control of all audio/visual and lighting technologies.
Viewing
For a true cinema experience, we installed a JVC native 4K projector, paired with a 158% fixed frame Projecta screen, allowing for content to be viewed in 16:9 aspect ratio or the 2.35:1 Cinemascope format that is especially well suited to home cinema rooms.
Sound
For immersive cinema surround sound, we devised and implemented the following audio system:
- Three Sonance reference cinema speakers installed behind the projection screen, providing left, centre and right channels.
- A James Audio on-wall speaker on the left and right walls, providing the surround channels.
- Two Sonance reference cinema in-ceiling speakers, providing the surround back channels.
- Four Sonance reference cinema speakers installed in the ceiling, providing Atmos height channels.
- A Sonance 12″ Active Subwoofer installed at the front and rear of the cinema room to create room-filling bass.
For a full 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos surround sound experience, the combination of speakers are all driven from an Arcam AV receiver and power amplifier combo featuring class G amplification and Dirac Live room correction.
Control
The home’s Control4 home automation system allows for a range of control solutions to suit each user, including Control4 Neeo remote controls, tabletop touch screens, and the option to use the Control4 mobile app on any mobile device. With Control4, our clients can switch their cinema room into viewing mode with a touch of a button that slowly dims the lights and selects the relevant media source.
Converting a disused garage into a media room
As well as working on home entertainment room projects for new builds, we also regularly repurpose existing spaces. A few years ago, we completed a project in Sutton Coldfield where we converted a disused garage into a home cinema/media room, ensuring that it would get a lot more use in future.
Daytime TV to movie night
As well as providing cinematic sights and sounds at the touch of a button, our customer wanted a space that was just as well suited to normal everyday home comforts. For daily use, we installed a 75” OLED TV, perfect for catching up on their favourite TV shows or sports with normal lighting. For movie nights, we installed a 3m wide 4K projector and screen.
For cinema quality surround sound, we installed B&W in ceiling and in wall speakers, which deliver a 5.1.2 Atoms engulfed sound experience.
Cinematic experiences at the touch of a button
To ensure that the cinema and media room is easy to use, we integrated all elements with the same Control4 application. As well as all A/V equipment, dimmable lighting and electric blinds are controlled by Control4 keypads or Control4 Neeo remote, allowing for complete automation. This allows for a simple switch from TV to movie night, with a single command dimming the lights, closing the blinds, and readying the projector screen.
A stunning home cinema room in Solihull
For a family in Solihull, West Midlands, looking to create the perfect entertaining space, we transformed disused stables into a state of the art family cinema room, complete with bar area.
Viewing
For cinematic viewing, we installed a JVC native 4K projector and 158” fixed frame Projecta screen, which allows for 16:9 or 2.35:1 aspect ratio to suit the media being shown.
Sound
Given the size of the stables space, we installed a comprehensive sound system to create a truly immersive cinematic sound experience. The audio system consists of:
- Three Sonance reference cinema speakers fitted behind the acoustically transparent Projecta screen, with left, right and centre channels.
- Two James Audio on-wall speakers for the surround channels.
- Two Sonance reference cinema in-ceiling speakers providing surround back channels.
- Four Sonance reference cinema speakers installed in the cinema room ceiling for Atmos height channels.
- Two Sonance 12″ Active Subwoofers in a front and rear configuration for bass response that effectively fills the room.
This configuration of speakers is driven by an Arcam AV Receiver and power amplifier combo, featuring Class G amplification and Dirac Live room correction. The result is 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos surround sound.
Control
Again, for this project, we integrated all equipment with Control4, with Neeo remotes, touch screens, and the Control4 mobile app available to control all elements, and switch into cinema mode with ease.
