SY Christopher gets audio visual upgrade

Veritais Ltd has just completed a major audio visual refit on the six-year old 46m performance cruising ketch Christopher when she revisited Pendennis, the yard where she was built in the UK.
Veritais carried out the installation while Christopher was undergoing other yard work, completely upgrading the whole system. “We had made some recommendations to the owner which we knew would enhance the system now that the yacht is six years old,” explains David Milner of Veritais, “and she now features the very latest state of the art audio system.”
Veritais originally designed, specified, installed and commissioned the high-definition audio system on board, which was built around a central computer to provide the software and processing power for media distribution, and which in turn interfaces with the yacht’s main data system to allow single-point control.
The yacht has been divided into 14 different AV ‘zones’ which include the saloon, owners’ suite, guest and crew cabins, even laundry, garage and engine room. Veritais has now fitted each zone with a video and audio media stored on a Network-Attached-Storage (NAS) Drive with 4 terabytes of memory capable of storing thousands of movies and music tracks.
iPads have been provided by Veritais for use as remote controls for the system in every cabin to control all AV equipment including the TV, the media players, amplifiers and TV Lifts. In the crew mess there is a hard-wired 7” in-wall touch screen for full control of all zones on board.
A media player, one of which has been installed in the majority of the zones, is a simple on screen press button application, allowing access to the complete music and movie library stored on the server.
A Control4 (central controller) processor will allow guests to control the central AV equipment via the bespoke remote control in each cabin or vai an iPad, so that they can play their own music centrally. AV Receivers with built-in Airplay have been installed through the zones, allowing guests to stream music straight from their own devices to the cabin’s entertainment system
Veritais has also installed Nintendo Wii games system in the main saloon and a number of guest cabins.
Other equipment including engine room, tender garage and foredeck amplifiers has also been installed. New amplification has been added in a number of areas to give a better sound experience to existing speakers.
Veritais has reprogrammed the existing control equipment with new software to administrate the new system. A new Control4 system processor has been added along with an automated Blu-ray, DVD and CD ripper that will automatically rip (upload) a disc when inserted – no user input required.
Veritais had previously installed an array of equipment including TV screens and speakers, along with Apple TV – a digital media receiver designed to store and play digital content originated from iTunes and an HD projector in the cockpit directed at a 3m wide screen that lowers down from the cockpit deckhead, for the full, open-air cinema experience. Guests can even view information from the chart plotter to see details of the voyage, in their own cabins.
The full system additionally links into the yacht’s closed-circuit TV system for enhanced security and safety.
